Fourth republic governor of Delta State, Olorogun James Onanefe Ibori took the saddle of leadership between 1999-2007 set a new order and became a major principality as far as Delta's guber seat is concerned. Chief Ibori came to power in 1999 through a sane democratic process, but would later set an undemocratic precedence... characterized with impunity, godfatherism, ethnocentrism, election manipulation, candidate imposition among many vices.
In 2007, the search for a loyal successor who will in turn cover up his trail at the expiration of his term in office, saw the emergence of his cousin Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan and this will signal the beginning of ZONING ERA in Delta's political sphere. The problem with zoning is hinged on the fact that it wasn't a collective ideology of the good people of Delta State. Conversely, zoning as envisaged will create an even developmental climate among the three (3) senatorial districts in the state. Moreso, it will cement all interests, giving them a sense of belonging, thus dampening the scourge of marginalization and neglect.
Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru political unveiling in 2003 received an affirmative nod from the electorates, but the ill-intended zoning arrangement of the corrupt U.K convict will see that the mission to liberate Deltans will take few more decades to actualize. The unwritten zoning formula/agenda in retrospect became a curse to Chief Ogboru's dream to govern the state as experienced in 2007, 2011, 2015 & 2019 respectively. In that line the Anioma agenda was birthed and the seemingly political strength cum influence of Ogboru in Delta North was tainted as a result.
Consequently, gubernatorial zoning has done a cyclical 360° turn in all three (3) senatorial districts of the state, thus 22years later its back to where it started (Delta Central). In 2023, it will be the turn of urhobos to restart the whole process once more and what has been seen as a clog in the wheel of Chief Ogboru's political journey will swiftly become a blessing.
Truthfully, Delta Central should be grateful continual to God for the resilence of Chief Great Ogboru, he's not a political jobber, whose sole interest is Deltans' collective interests, he's not a career politician hence his steadfastness and pinpoint focus. Unlike many career politicians that see politics as the life blood of their existence, money-driven men with no vision for the people save their pocket, little wonder they vie for every available political positions.
The blessings of zoning falls squarely on Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru a tested, resilient and dogged fighter....a man who's breast the tide for the opposition in Delta State. Delta Central should rally round him in 2023 since the odds are no more, no personality as far as opposition is concern has a wide acceptability like Chief Great Ogboru in the Delta's political spectrum.
LET'S ENJOY LIBERATION IN 2023.... OGBORU'S TIME HAS COME.
