GOV. OKOWA LIED: EDUCATION IS NOT HIS PRIORITY, STUDENTS STILL SIT ON BARE FLOOR TO LEARN IN DELTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS

His Excellency, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa in a statement severally has publicly proclaimed that education remained his “topmost priority.” However, barely few weeks of resumption for the 2021/2022 academic session.
It was obvious facts that Gov. Okowa lied, Education was not, is not, and most probably will never be his topmost priority, as students/Pupils in Delta public Schools still learn on a bare floor while in most cases under a dilapidated building amongst others.
Our reporter who went round some Delta public Secondary and Primary School across the three Senatorial District recently lamented that, despite huge Oil Revenue amongst other Internally Generated funds of the State students in public schools still sit on bare floor under a dilapidated building to learn.

At Emiye Girls Grammar School, a 41 year old secondary school in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government, Delta state, students were still sitting on bare floor under a dilapidated building to learn.

It was further discovered that many of the classrooms had no single furniture, while in others cases; they were not commensurate with the numbers of students in the class.

The story was not different in  some other parts of the state visited, Schools in Aliagwai, Aliokpu, Oki, Agbor, Ewuru Abavo just to mention but few and all were also in a bad condition amongst others across the three Senatorial District of Delta State.

In all the schools visited students were visibly seen sitting on the bare floor to learn while others were hanging on the classroom Windows

However, when our reporter requested to learn more about why a public school of such reputes could not provide furniture sets for its students, the School Heads. denied comments for fear of being victimized by the State Government.

However, some of the students who spoke to our reporter complained bitterly about the situation. We also want to use this medium to plead with the Government to also assist us with school desks. We don’t have boards, we don’t have chairs, some of us are sitting on the windows, our classes are bad, we don’t have windows, and we don’t have drinking water.

Even for the restroom we don’t have one and if you need to toilet, you either do it in the bush or go home. If we want to drink or use water from inside the school, we must go outside the school compound which is not too good. “We don’t have teachers for some subjects, like Security Studies, History, French, we need qualified teachers to teach us these subjects.”
